Jazz & R&R Horns, Session 21 mailbag

Session 21 is our first 'Mailbag'.  I thought it would be a good time to answer some of the emails I've been getting.  Though I try to respond to all your questions asap, I think it's a good idea to share with everyone so we can all benefit.

I have been getting a lot of questions regarding 3 part writing which leads me to believe that having 3 horns in a group is very popular, which makes perfect sense.  I'm so tempted to add a 3rd horn to the S+F Sextet, but I'm still challenged by the 2 horn combo and plan on staying with that for now.

Has been a very busy July and August for gigs. Lot's of park concerts, weddings, and corporate picnics.  In The 12 piece i play in we added an addition trumpet, so we now have 5 horns instead of 4. This means we need to go through the book and reconfigure where there's harmony.  Because a lot of the book is 70s R&b with trumpets above the staff, the two of them take turns playing the lead part.

If you have any questions or feedback, let me know.
Till the next time, thanks for stopping by.
