Get Over the Hump, Session 3

It all starts with scales.

In session 3 of Get Over the Hump we get into SCALES, starting with the C major scale. Chords are built from scales and we’ll be getting into that in sessions 4 and 5.

To my Horn arranging friends. I understand that this is very basic stuff, but my goal is to help novice musicians get a better, faster start. So if you know anyone, pass it along. The book is a condensed version of what someone would actually need to learn to Get Over The Hump. There's also information in the for book everyone... I hope :)

Get Over the Hump, Session 2

I hope this email finds you doing well and writing lots of great music. As I mentioned in my last email, I just finished a new ebook called, Get Over The Hump, a Songwriters Toolkit and in session two I talk about song form which is fun to experiment with and can make all the difference in creating a great song.

I talk about what I refer to as, symmetrical, and asymmetrical song form and what is called, Through-Composed. I also touch on form used in the Tin-Pan-Alley and jazz eras of the 20s, 30s, and 40s.

Get Over The Hump, Session 1

In this first video tutorial I cover a few ideas for writing a well crafted melody. This is an impossible subject to try and cover all the nuances in one short tutorial, so I will visit this subject again in the near future.
