Jazz & R&R Horns, session 1

For a while now I've been wanting to produce a video blog on arranging for horns. I feel there are many musicians and singer-songwriters out in cyber-land who would love to add horns to their band but have little or no knowledge on how to get started.  If you already have been using horns, hopefully this can shed some new light on the subject. I would love to hear from you as well.

This being my very 1st blog post, I talk about arranging for trumpet and tenor saxophone. These ideas work well in jazz or rock.

Since then I've had a lot of experience in using horns for live performance and in the studio. In school we wrote for 5 saxes to learn how to voice, and then onto Big-Band arranging.  In the years since, I mostly write for smaller groups of 2 to 5 horns and this is probably what most of you will be doing.

This video blogging is very new for me, trying to look pleasant without saying too many "Umms."  My wife, Holly keeps me looking and sounding good......as possible. Hopefully I will get better at this and more importantly, that you will find the information useful.

I'm also in the process of putting together an e-book with notated and audio examples of all the information covered in the videos.

It would be great to hear from some of you with any questions, suggestions, or comments.

Thanks for stopping by,
