The Wait For Water

A dramatic intro with beautiful vocals over a bed of latin percussion and a memorable jazzy bass/synth line. The lyrics are a commentary on our inability as humans to make timely progress for positive change in the world, often held up by religious dogma.

I Love You More

Let's call it Western Jazz. Inspired by Joni Mitchell's jazz/folk period with a western style lyric. About a couple who leaves the comfort of their home to travel across the desert in New Mexico on horseback, suffering the hardships of their journey and finally making it home again to discover how much their love for each other has grown.

Around For The Fall

In the style of a classic vocal jazz ballad, with a beautiful string and vocal arrangement, Around For The Fall is a song about a lover who refuses to take the fall of their lover in the Autumn/Fall season. This is a "picture-video' with beautiful landscapes of the Fall season.

Pink & Power Blue

An uptempo, vocal, jazz/waltz composition about a relationship that’s on the rocks. With big-band horns and jazzy vocals this track is driven by an awesome drum & bass track reminiscent of the bebop era. Hope you enjoy. The title acually came from shopping for bathroom tile and my wife liked the tile that was, “Pink & Powder Blue. My light went on!

The Bird Sing

Up tempo vocal jazz/rock tune in 7/8 time. A positive and up lifting song about everyday life with word play that perks the ear.

Down To Da Bop Shabay

Jazz/Rock tune in 7/4 about life with COVID-19. This was written and produced while in quarantine - Summer of 2020.

Time for a Change

A medium tempo BlueEyedSoul/Jazz tune that talks about hope, youth, and a plead for our world to come together as one. The universe is calling on us earthlings to do the right thing to save our planet from an early demise.

Cover art - Come My Way 1000.jpg

Come My Way

This is one of the bands more popular tunes. This BluEydSoul, boy/girl duet that I wrote for my wife, Holly, who on occasion I’ll say, Come My Way. Flugelhorn solo, Matt Carr

He Gonna Lie Cover Art 1000.jpg

He Gonna Lie & She Gonna Cry

A blue-eyed-soul, boy-girl vocal duet about a guy who goes out at night after work and cheats on his wife. This being one of the bands more popular tunes it has both a catchy bass line and melody with a slightly retro vide. The twist at the end is, “she ain’t crying no more.”

One or the Other -CoverArt 720.jpg

One Or The Other

This track is a funky upbeat, positive tune about a guy who has “one in each pocket.” If only he could decide on the older lady who he works for, or the younger gal who owns the shop down the street. This song is one of our most requested when playing shows. Complete with a snappy vocal and horn arrangement. Make sure to play to the end for a sizzling trumpet solo.

Only Of Love

A rock/pop song about love around the world. Acts of love with family.

And I Say A Prayer

In the tradition of 60s 12/8 R&B ballads, “And I Say A Prayer.” A song about love lost and hoping that a prayer will make things right. The thunder clouds will clear and the sun will shine for a  better day. KING BETA cut this track live at Hallowed Halls recording studios and added additional vocals in post for a lush sound.

Sexy City Cover Art 1000.jpg

Sexy City

This song was originally written for the musical, Bridgetown, about Portland Or and was performed at the 2010 Fertile Ground Playwrights Festival. Sexy City (Subtitled, “it’s all business when we’re going down.”) is about Portland’s strip tease industry. According to one statistic, Portland has more stripers per capita than any other city in the USA. This song is for and about them.

Of Color Album Graphic -Square 1000.jpg

Of Color

Over a dark G-minor-9 chord with 4-on-the-floor, the lyric ask the question, “what color are you?” We all reflect our own hue of Red, Blue, and Yellow.  Midway, the song lifts to a major key, and everyone sings, “I dream of a cultural smorgasbord.”

Cover Art Chit Chat 900px.jpg

Chit Chat (Words Matter)

A four-on-da-floor, blue-eyed-soul, jazz crossover track with lyrics that talk about the importance of words and their meaning. Much of this video was shot at a location close to my home where people gather a few hours everyday to display their protest signs and banners

Cash Cow Burnout

An uptempo Rock/R&B tune about hating your job and the struggles for money.

Jazz & Rock & roll horns

"You literally saved my life. You´re are the only one explaning so accurate. I´m am a Songwriter in afro-funk-jazz band, and i am in charge for all the writing, and this was my major big issue. Peace." Carmon

"Continue to love and be grateful for your material. Made a big difference to me and my band. We have trumpet, alto sax and Trom in our soul/blues line up along with guitar, bass and drum kit." Richard

"Thank you fred, you are great teacher. I took a horn arranging class under Don S. at Monterey 35 years ago, and have worked with some great players. You really simplify everything and make it much easier to understand. I have been writing parts for years but they now sound much better because of you. thank you Eddie

"Fred thank you so much..I have listened to all the videos and they are great...I'm a retired band director and life long big band player, but I knew nothing about writing for big band..my background at school was a purely classical approach ( jazz the devil music!)...since I have retired I have purchased a number of jazz  arranging books and have learned much.. Having a live instructor like you explains it much better. This is great..wish I could have had you for an instructor many years ago!"
Thanks again, Roger

"Many thanks, really looking forward to reading the e-book for my studies on arranging.  I'm keen to become a horn arranger to add to being a sax player.  I also really enjoyed and learned from your YouTube tutorials, which had my pen to manuscript whilst I watched following each exercise.
~ Thanks, Alex from the UK"

I love your ability to teach with good humor, and making it easy.  I play the alto sax and would like to record at least three voices.  Merci for all this advice.
~ Charles R

Great lessons, not to mention entertaining!  Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much, Fred.
~ Arikshi J
